Working with the Sun

Our remit for this month was to experiment with light. We were to try backlit pictures, perhaps producing a halo effect, silhouettes, reflections or a well-lit subject with background out of focus. These are our efforts:

Working with Sun
Spires and chimneys taken from Princes St gardens on 10/2/2010 late on a sunny afternoon. Taken with a digital compact camera, experimenting with manual modes instead of relying on auto. Focussed on the sky to set exposure before moving camera to frame the shot. Cropped the bottom of photo to emphasise the skyline and used Canon software to slightly alter the brightness.SW

Loco Shed. Technical data: ISO = 64; 1/140; F = 3.5. No modifications.
The shed was full of sleeping steam locomotives awaiting inspection and overhaul and I wanted a photograph that reflected the stillness and tranquillity of the place. RH
